Questionnaire analysis

When conducting research on the my target audience, a series of questions was asked. The first question was on gender, 18.18% were female, however 81.82% were male. Meaning that overall it's a male audience I'm aiming my magazine at.

Question two was on my target audiences age overall the majority of the target audience is much younger. We can see the overall the percentage of people between the ages of 18-24 was 81.82% which was much higher, compared to the other results of 18.18% for people between the ages 25-34.

The next question was on social class, I asked what class people were the results varied. Overall the majority of people are middle class with 63.64%. Lower middle class 27.27% and upper middle class 9.09%.

I then asked what type of content my target audience would like featured in my magazine. Overall my target audience want to read about new upcoming artists as it has 45.45%, followed by up and coming gigs at 36.36%, and then interviews with 18.18%.

I wanted to see what colour scheme my target audience would like, the results show the would prefer darker colours with 63.64%, then 27.27% wanted neutral colours, and 9.09% wanting bright colours.

My target audience want a more neat, tidy look with 80% however 20% want a grungy look.

I asked my target audience what they would like more of in a rock magazine, overall 63.64% want to see an even mix of both text and images. However 27.27% want images over text, and 9.09% text over images.

My main target audience overall is a male audience, between the ages of 18-24 from middle class backgrounds, and would like to see more about upcoming artists over any other content. However they would like a neat looking magazine, with darker colours, but a even mix of both text and images. My magazine is going to have to specifically designed to fit this target audience.

Planning ideas

My magazine is overall going to be a rock magazine, it is going to have the latest content, and fit with my target audience. Which is predominately males, between the ages 18-24, and what to keep up with the latest trends. The magazine will feature articles such as interviews, top stories, and up and coming gigs. My magazine will have to feature the latest content to fit in with latest trends, and become a well noticed, and high quality magazine. Overall the magazine, will have a high quality look to it, with a neat look, and darker colours.

The ideas for a name of my rock magazine are:

  • Crash
  • Kerplunk
There are going to cover lines featured on the front cover of my magazine, here are some ideas of coverlines:
  • Exclusive interview with (artists name)
  • All time top 10 rock albums
  • The latest gigs a-z
  • (album name) Review
I want my main image, to instantly give off the impression that my magazine is a rock/indie cover. The three magazine front covers below
are the type of ideas I have for my magazine. I want a magazine that distinctively has a rock/indie look. I need to specifically cater for my target audience. These magazines are similar to the type of magazine I want to produce, they specifically have a rock/indie look to them. The colour schemes are much darker, and masculine colours. Also the layout of the magazines have a distinctive look to them, the main images all represent the rock/indie scene. You can see that the people featured on thew front covers, are some of the most iconic well known artists in this industry, showing that the magazines are aimed to be at the highest quality they can produce.

Photoshoot

Big close up: The big close up shows the facial area, it focuses on the expressions of the character. This photo shows what type of shot we are after which is specifically of the face. However the shot could be improved, the picture is out of focus, making the image look a lower quality photo, the image also is of a higher angle instead of being in the characters eye line. The expressions of the character are more angry, this shot gives a good perspective on this.

Wide shot: The wide shot shows the area, and is an establishing shot, it shows the audience the view of the scene, giving them an insight as to the location, and mise-en-scene. The image could be improved, if the angle of the image was level with the buildings it is showing. The image shows to much of the sky, and doesn't focus as much on the buildings itself, as it's not the main focus of the image.

Shots of feet:

The shots of feet show images taken in a different unusual way. Shots have been taken at different angles, one worms eye view, one high angle shot and a mid shot. The shots show feet in different perspectives, and different positions. The image could be improved, if the images were of a higher quality and not as blurry, also the space around the images, it doesn't specifically focus on the feet in the image which was the target instead it has too much going on in the location, and the mise-en-scene.

Over the shoulder shot:

An over the shoulder shot, shows what the character can see, it shows what they're looking at, but also focuses on what is in front of them. An over the shoulder shot, is also used in dialogue commonly. This shot is specifically focusing on the character that is closer and is the shoulder we are looking at, it doesn't focus on the character in the background, this is one of the improvements that could be made instead so it has a deep focus on the whole scene instead of one specific part.

Window shot:

The window shot, shows bad lighting, you can roughly see the character in front of the window, however due to the reflection of the shot, you can see the person taking the photograph and another character, this shows a bad quality photo, and not what to do when creating our own shots.
