Survey monkey results

In order to find my target audience I conducted a questionnaire, in order to determine what my audience would prefer in a regional magazine. For the questionnaire I asked questions about gender, age, house styles and potential names for the magazine. I overall got 10 responses which I will be developing on, to determine my target audience.

The first question of the questionnaire was: what is your gender? I provided the options of male, female and prefer not to say.
I overall got a predominantly male response with 60% saying that they were male, the other 40% was female with no one answering prefer not to say. This overall concluded that my target audience will be a fairly equal female and male magazine, this will allow me to have a flexible amount of articles that can be suited for both female and male target audiences.

The next question of the questionnaire was: what is your age range? I provided quite a range of options for this question from a very young age to 65+.

The results I received were positive in the sense it was the age range I wanted roughly for the magazine I was creating. The results I received was 50% 18-24 and the other 50% being from 25-32. This overall shows that my target audience overall is a younger audience meaning the product I wish to create will be suited for the target audience.

The third question of the questionnaire was: for a regional magazine which title do you prefer? I provided a list of answers which would of suited the location of my regional magazine which is Cornwall.

The results overall were very one sided with 90% stating that the name they preferred the most was Kernow Living. The other 10% stated that they preferred the name Cornwall Alive, however with a result of 90% preferring Kernow Living I will be choosing this as my regional magazine's title.

The next question was: what article would attract you most to a regional magazine? This question would tell me what content I would have to produce for my magazine to suit my target audience.

The results I received were surprising, 90% of my target audience stated that they wanted lifestyle articles featured in the regional magazine. With the other 10% stating they would prefer surfing articles featured in the regional magazine. This has proved useful as the original plans for the articles featured in the regional magazine were articles on surfing locations, the coast, local businesses such as barbers, and many other lifestyle articles. I will also be featuring surfing articles.

The question after that was: what design would you prefer for a regional magazine? I provided the target audience with four different pictures they could choose from, all of different magazines.

The results I received were overall positive in respect to the original designs I had planned for the regional magazine. My target audience preferred the Paper magazine design the most with 50% stating it was the design they prefer the most. The remaining percentages were on the ESM magazine (30%), and the other 20% being for surfer magazine. Overall this shows that my target audience would prefer a very simplistic but professional looking magazine that stands out.

The next question was: what colour would you like most for a regional magazine? This question could have been more specific and in fact did not get 10 replies instead got 9 overall.

However the results overall were 55% saying they wanted more blue types of colours for the regional magazine. This overall can reflect on the predominantly male audience, however will be good for my magazine as it can reflect on the coast fitting in with my regional magazine. The other percentage stated they wanted more red colours.

The last question was: what type of font would you be most attracted to for a regional magazine? I gave my target audience multiple answers for the question from simplistic, bold, loud and traditional.

Overall 70% said they would prefer a simplistic style for a regional magazine, which fits in with the hipster design I wish to create for my magazine. The other 30% voted for a traditional styled font.

From looking at the results of the survey, I have been able to gain the information needed to create the product I need for my regional magazine. This will also reflect on my billboard and website, however I have been able to find out the age range, gender and what my audience wants, therefore I will apply all of this to my product to ensure that it is a success and meets the criteria.

  1. BE CAREFUL!Just because 60% are male, it doesn't mean your target audience will be - it just means your results will represent a fairly equal gender mix.
